Words to describe people

There are many ways and words to talk about a person’s physical appearance.

Age

A senior citizen is a very old person. A large number of them have retired from active employment and get a pension. So they can also be called pensioners.

People aged between 40 and 60 are usually called middle-aged. People aged between 20 and 40 are called young adults.

Teens or teenagers are those aged between 13 and 19. Children who are only a few months old are called babies. Those who have just started walking are often called toddlers.

Build

People can be of many different sizes and shapes. Some people are fat and overweight. Those who are extremely overweight are often called obese. Obesity, which means the state of being obese, is a huge health problem.

Some people are slim. They are neither fat nor thin. Some people have absolutely no fat on them. They are called thin or skinny.

Small, but well-built people are called stocky. Lean people usually have very little fat on them. If you have an athletic boy, you have a well-proportioned muscular frame.

Color

A blonde is a woman with fair hair and a fair complexion. A brunette is a woman with black hair. Some fair skinned people can get freckles from the sun. These are the small brown dots on the face and arms.

Some people have dark skin. Some are neither fair nor dark. The color of your skin is usually determined by your ethnicity.

Face

Faces, too, can be of different shapes. Some people have oval faces. That means the shape of their face is similar to the shape of an egg. Others have round or square faces. Noses can be broad or narrow. Teeth can be even or crooked. If you have crooked teeth, you can straighten them using braces.

Hair

Some people have curly hair. Hair can also be straight or wavy. If you have wavy hair, it is neither straight nor curly. People who have no hair on their head are called bald.
