Sample conversations about roommates

He doesn’t reimburse me for anything

Sample conversations are a great way to practice your English speaking skills. Here is a piece of conversation between two friends.

Story line: Peter is upset with his roommate because he doesn’t reimburse him for anything.

Jack: How are things going with you and your roommate?

Peter: Not very well. You know what? We’re supposed to share the groceries, but he doesn’t contribute anything. Now I’m feeding him three meals a day. I’m fed up with him. I’ve a small salary and now more than half of that goes into buying grocery. I can no longer afford this.

Jack: I know how you feel. It’s no fun having a roommate who tries to live off you. Have you discussed this with him?

Peter: I would like to, but I don’t know how to tell him that. He isn’t such a bad guy, you know. In fact, sometimes he even treats me to a meal in a restaurant.

Jack: He doesn’t give you a treat every day, does he? In my opinion, you should have a heart-to-heart friendly chat with him. Tell him about your problems. If he still refuses to mend his ways, then ask him to move out. That’s what I would do if I were in your place.
