Asking about home town
When we meet people, we often ask about their home town or the place they live in. Here are some questions you can ask. Sample answers are also given.
‘Where do you live?’ ‘I live in Delhi.’
‘Why did you come to Delhi’ ‘I came here to work.’ / ‘I came here to study.’
‘How long have you lived here?’ ‘I’ve just arrived. / I have lived here for 10 years.’
‘Where are you from?’ ‘I’m from Karnataka.’
‘What part of Karnataka do you come from?’ ‘I’m from Mangalore.’
‘Have you ever been to my home town?’ ‘Yes, I have been there once. I have a few friends in Mangalore.’
‘Do you know my home town?’ ‘Yes, I know your home town.’
‘Have you heard of my home town?’ ‘Yes, I’ve heard of your home town but I haven’t been there.’
‘Where do your brothers live?’ ‘They live in Mumbai.’
‘How long have they been living in Mumbai?’ ‘They’ve been living there for 15 years.’
‘Where do your parents live?’ ‘My parents live in Tamil Nadu.’
‘How long have they lived in Tamil Nadu?’ ‘They’ve lived all their life in Tamil Nadu.’
‘Where does your sister live?’ ‘She lives in Bangalore.’
‘How long has she been living in Bangalore?’ ‘She’s been living there since year 2005.’
‘How long have you been living here?’ ‘I’ve been living here since year 2002.’ / ‘I’ve been living here for 13 years.’
