Verbs exercise
Verbs are action words. They show what the subject is doing.
Underline the verbs in the following sentences.
1. The nightingale sang melodiously.
2. He went to the market to buy some vegetables.
3. He earned the respect of his countrymen.
4. They welcomed him with open arms.
5. She did something stupid.
6. The frustrated woman didn’t know what she was supposed to do.
7. The students and their parents have been invited to the function.

12. She shouted at the watchman.
Answers
1. The nightingale sang melodiously.

6. The frustrated woman didn’t know what she was supposed to do. (Here the past participle frustrated acts as an adjective modifying the noun woman. To-infinitives are not considered as verbs.)
